Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years since the original Toy Story movie was released, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and introducing audiences to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the plot but leaving viewers curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
In the teaser shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is why the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
