The former Brazilian leader has been taken into custody after authorities found he posed a definite escape threat while under home confinement.

The former head of state was sentenced of planning a military coup in last fall and sentenced more than over two decades in jail, but he remained under confinement pending legal challenges.

Top Judicial Official Justice Moraes said the action to imprison the septuagenarian politician was a safety action after fresh information emerged.

Context of Sentencing

Bolsonaro was determined responsible of leading a scheme aimed at keeping him in power after he failed to win the presidential race to his political opponent, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
