She's Gathered Countless of Pokemon Cards with Holes, and She's Unstoppable.
Pokémon creators released collectors to the card series Diamond and Pearl edition in the year 2007, including the Bonsly illustration. Within this depiction, the Gen 4 rock-type is shown by artist Harada-san in a somewhat awkward pose. In the image, the predecessor to Sudowoodo is depicted toppled and shedding tears. However, don't mistake this, however. Similar to its attack Fake Tears, this Pokémon attempts to sway the foe's feelings to lowering their attack. Iconic piece, no? Electroacoustic harpist Emily Hopkins certainly thinks so. She possesses a collection book with 305 Bonsly cards to prove it.
The Entire Assortment with Key Pieces
That's not everything she has also. She has acquired twenty reverse foil versions of this particular card, showing the small Pokémon with metallic accents everywhere but the central artwork. The prized possession, however, proves to be the professionally graded PSA 6 reverse holo Bonsly card. Admittedly, it's not a high-grade original Charizard card. But do you have a goofy, close to mint card of Bonsly preserved forever immortalized? I didn't think so.
Origins of the Collection
Hopkins has spent much of 2025 gathering every 2007 Bonsly card she can possibly find. She discovered of this rare card in recent months, while debating the notoriously odd cards in the Pokémon TCG with an employee at a local shop. Crying Omanyte was considered, as was the forever alone Cubone on a park ride. However, the one that Bonsly crying, aka card number 17, that caught Emily's focus.
Behind Bonsly's Look
Bonsly is obviously influenced on bonsai trees, which are often grown in pots that have drainage holes. These holes are intended to support healthy development, to the extent that fans suggest to peers to create openings in their containers if they don't already have one. Additionally, bonsai may sit in shallow containers without holes, called suiban, where the water stays could aid enthusiasts decorate their plants to mimic outdoor scenes. Bonsly is the former, thus the hole exists.
Why Bonsly Stands Out
Despite this logical explanation, yet, Pokémon's creators seems almost excessively attentive with Bonsly's hole. Even merchandise such as Bonsly plush toys always incorporate a cavity on the underside of the tree-like Pokémon. Regardless whether the portrayal of Bonsly in question is crying or calm: It will display a hole. The hole is a key element in Bonsly's appearance. This specific Bonsly card turned into an internet joke among fans because of that drainage hole, and also because of its rarity. Up until last year, this Bonsly card was the single type featuring Bonsly printed in a game in which most Pokémon are commonly shown in multiple editions. Emily's Dedication
"Upon noticing Bonsly among the selections of infamous cards, I felt I had found my new favorite," Emily states over email, mentioning how she was surprised that she hadn't encountered it earlier. She admits freely to tell you her love of the Bonsly card serves no practical purpose, but it didn't matter. The liking became an all-consuming hobby, as she acquired every Bonsly #71 card she could possibly find. She adopted a habit of going to her local card shop regularly, and was dubbed among the staff as "Bonsly Girl". The store began setting aside any recently acquired Bonsly #71 cards they obtained exclusively for Emily. The majority of these are priced at one to three dollars, she mentions, estimating that she has invested about $400 only on the album itself.
Market Trends and Value
Nowadays, excellent this Bonsly card may reach prices of $14.99. While that is a premium price, standard versions are often priced at $4 and above. The upward trend roughly aligns with when Hopkins started collecting seriously, but it's possible that multiple reasons. Even though the card is notorious with enthusiasts, Hopkins's posts regarding the card have attracted millions of views. With information about this card expands further among more people, it is likely that the price of Bonsly #71 cards might increase even more. At the very least, enthusiasts say that TCG prices are skyrocketing currently overall.
Her Relentless Pursuit
Hopkins cannot be stopped, yet.
"The amazing thing is certain fans and viewers from her channel have mailed their own Bonsly cards to me to add to my collection, and I am keeping them secure indefinitely," Hopkins says. Rather than recoil in horror, the audience feel admiration and motivation by her Bonsly binder.
