Fatal Bus Crash in North-eastern Brazil Claims 15 Fatalities
An long-distance bus traveling through northeastern Brazil was involved in a grave accident, resulting in 15 individuals dead, as stated by regional officials.
Details of the Accident
The bus was carrying around 30 people when it lost control and slammed into a sandbank, causing it to flip on its side. The number of wounded individuals taken to local hospitals is not yet confirmed.
The journey originated in the region of Bahia and ended tragically in Saloá, located in the neighbouring area of Pernambuco state.
How It Happened
Preliminary information indicate that the bus operator lost command of the vehicle, entering the opposite lane and hitting rocks on the shoulder. After that, the driver got back into the correct lane but then crashed into a sandbank, which led the vehicle to overturn.
The cause behind the accident is presently being looked into. The operator sustained minor injuries and was found negative for alcohol.

A regional official stated that the government is offering support for the rescue operation and identifying the victims. In a statement, "Our team is closely monitoring the incident and sincerely regret the loss of lives, the injuries and the pain of all the families."
